[Science Expo] [Rubrics] [Register Online]
“ Participants will be judged against a standard of
excellence, not each other.”Judging will be based on scores earned using standardized rubrics. This is a system in which participants are judged not against each other but against a standard of excellence. A scoring rubric will be used by impartial judges to make the ranking as objective as possible. Projects will be ranked based on how closely they match the standard. There is therefore the theoretical possibility that everyone could reach the highest category, making everyone a “winner”, but in all likelihood there will be a broad spectrum of rankings. The categories are as follows:
Exemplary
Highest achievement possible: all essential elements fully developed beyond expectations.Superior
Clearly understands principles of scientific investigation, all essential elements present.Honorable
An adequate but incomplete effort that needs some elaboration in 1 or 2 areas.Participation
Lacking or inadequate in a number of essential elements.
AWARDS & DISTINCTIONS
Exemplary projects will receive a certificate and a trophy.
Superior Projects will receive a certificate and a medal.
Honorable projects will receive a certificate and a ribbon.
Participant projects that earned a participation ranking will receive a certificate.
Several other distinctions will be awarded such as Best of Show, Best Display, Best Oral Defense, Experimental Design Challenge winner, etc...
We believe everybody who participates in the Science Expo’ is a WINNER and deserves to be recognized for their efforts.
